I found out about Brigid’s crosses from Hanna Van Aelst’s YouTube channel. Legend/Tradition/Religious Teachings says that if you hang crosses of the pagan goddess Brigid (or St. Brigid if you’re Catholic) at the threshold of your barns on the 31st of January, that she will bless all of the animals living within on February 1st at the start of Imbolc.

I had just taken over management of the horse boarding barns on my family farm and I was willing to try anything at all to take any kind of good care of the horses and barn kitties to keep them safe. So, I made 6 crosses and hung them at all of the barn doors. And I have and will continue to do so every year.
